Aspiring Painter
Grades 5–9
Take out your brush and palette. Whether you’re just beginning to paint or are putting together your portfolio, this class will challenge the individual artist in you. Try painting like the French—outdoors “en plein air.” We will cover acrylic and watercolor while learning a variety of brush and painting techniques such as color mixing, blending, and shading.
Basketry

beautiful art of basketry. Using reeds,
fabric, and a splash of color, you will
create a variety of both decorative and
useful baskets. This course is

Do you love to build? Grab your hard hat and enter the construction zone! From castles to skyscrapers and floating rafts to forts, we’ll use
LEGO® materials, popsicle sticks, and giant building blocks to make group and individual projects. No construction site will be the same!

Come be an architect and build a “log” home out of different types of pretzels. This class mixes fun, excitement, and creativity with food! Explore art beyond markers, crayons,

Sculpture
Grades 3–9
Think BIG and learn how to make a
fanciful, larger-than-life-sized
object—whether it’s a shoe that’s
large enough to sit in, an ipod the size
of your dog, or a yo-yo as big as a
chair. Using wire, papier mâché,
plaster, and lots of imagination and
humor, you’ll create your very own
incredible, larger-than-life-sized

This class is all about exploring new and different Sculpey Clay projects. Begin with rolling, molding, and slicing, or get more involved with marbling, braiding, carving, and texture-simulating clay techniques. Try making a one-of-a-kind pin, personalized pen wrap, custom-made bead, or design your own unique sculpture.
Photography
Grades 3–9
In this “picture perfect” course,
you will be introduced to the basic
elements of of black-and-white
photography. Using a 35mm single-lens
camera (provided by Summer Place), you
will shoot pictures on campus and then
learn how to develop and enlarge them.
Your prints will be mounted and matted
for a professionally finished product.
Pinewood
Derby
Grades 3–9
Learn the tricks of the trade and perfect your sawing, sanding, gluing, painting, and precision-balancing skills as you build regulation sized Pinewood Derby cars. Finished cars will race on the Summer Place Speedway. Blast your way to racetrack stardom!
Positively
Paint
Grades 1–2
Roll up your sleeves and get ready to experiment with finger painting and wet wax art. Mix paint to create your own unique color, or try your hand at sponge painting

Tie-Dye Technique
Grades 3–9
Roll up your sleeves and get ready to
mimic the “groovy” tie-dye styles of
Austin Powers, Jimi Hendrix, and Led
Zeppelin. Using rubber bands and
colorful dyes, you’ll test different
techniques as you twist, soak, and tie
t-shirts, socks, and handkerchiefs, and
making the hippie styles of the ’60s and
’70s come alive at Summer Place.

Egg Painting
Grades 5–9
Did you know that a 10-cent chicken egg
could be turned into a $50 masterpiece?
With a wax drawing tool, melted beeswax,
15 special dyes, and an egg, you will
learn the same wax-relief method

you use the kickwheel to create

design, shape, and fire your finished
products.
Woodburning
Grades 5–9
Etch your creative ideas into wood by
learning this “hot” hobby. Discover
techniques for drawing, shading, and
adding color to your wood-burned
projects. Transfer an ordinary piece of
pine into a working clock, platter, or
even a book. Note: Due to safety
issues, maturity and appropriate
behavior are necessary to guarantee a

Use your mind, muscle, and creativity as you learn the craft of woodworking.
Design and build a variety of special
