Art Safari New! Grades 1–4

Aspiring Painter Grades 5–9

Ceramics Grades 3–9
Join in the fun as you pound, poke, and roll clay into fabulous, hand-made creations. Learn how to use slab, coil, and pinch techniques to make a variety of fun and unusual projects. Roll up your sleeves and experiment with a variety of textures and glazing techniques. You will be amazed when your finished work comes out of the kiln!
ClayCreations Grades 1–2
Do you like to play with clay? Learn the secrets of making clay from ordinary materials, like sawdust, dough, and paper. After mixing the clay, you can create all kinds of incredible things from astonishing fantasy creatures to colorful name signs for your room. Dig in and get your hands into a squishy mix or two!
Computer Art Grades 3–9
Discover how much fun you can have using digital tools to create a masterpiece on the computer. Learn the basics of paint and photo software programs; put your head on the body of Hannah Montana or insert yourself into the Yankees’ lineup. Create an unbelievable 3-D project by scanning photos and using cool textures and colors. See how easy and fun it is to become a computer artist!
Gargoyles in Relief New! Grades 5–9
Build a gargoyle in your own "gothic" style as you learn about relief sculpture from the inside out. Model a unique creature face of your own design with paper clay that will be finished to resemble carved stone. Larger-than-Life Sculpture Grades 5–9
Think BIG and learn how to make a fanciful, larger-than-life-sized object—whether it’s a shoe that’s large enough to sit in, an iPod the size of your dog, or a yo-yo as big as a chair. Using wire, papier mâché, plaster, and lots of humor and imagination, you’ll create your very own incredible, larger-than-life-sized sculpture!

Mosaic New! Grades 5–9
Discover how mosaic artwork is created and why this ancient art form has been around for more than 4,000 years. Learn how to arrange colorful clay and glass tile pieces to design useful and decorative flower pots, picture frames, and serving platters. This course is appropriate for both beginning and advanced artists.
Photography Grades 3–9
In this "picture perfect" course, you will be introduced to the basic elements of black-and-white photography. Using a 35mm single-lens camera (provided by Summer Place), you will shoot pictures on campus and then learn how to develop and enlarge them in a darkroom. Your prints will be mounted and matted for a professionally finished product.
Picture-Perfect Painting Grades 1–4
Explore the many ways that you can express yourself with paint. Grab your palette and brush and paint a still life or a landscape outdoors. Try applying watercolor and acrylic paints using a sponge, Q-tips, or crumpled paper, and add cut-up pieces from newspapers and magazines to create a collage effect that is perfect for framing.
Pinewood Derby Grades 3-9
Learn the tricks of the trade as you perfect your sawing, sanding, gluing, painting, and precision-balancing skills and build regulation-sized Pinewood Derby cars. Finished cars will race on the Summer Place Speedway. Blast your way to racetrack stardom!
Sculpture in Motion Grades 3-9
Turn wire, papier mâché, and Celluclay™ (a paper clay) into animated 3-dimensional art. Capture the action of human and animal figures with sculpture. Create a baseball player swinging a bat at home plate, a cat playing with a ball of yarn, or a horse leaping over a fence. Join us as we mix both action and art!

Woodburning Grades 5-9
Burn and etch your creative ideas into wood by learning this “hot” hobby. Discover techniques for drawing, shading, and adding color to your wood-burned projects. Transfer your original drawings, favorite sports-team logo, or cartoon characters into a woodburned work of art that you can proudly hang on your wall or give as a gift! Woodworking Grades 1-9
Use your mind, muscle, and creativity as you learn the craft of woodworking. Design and build a variety of special projects while learning how to use hammers, saws, sanders, drills, and other hand tools.
