Acting     Grades 3–9 (double-period class for grades 5–9)

All the world is your stage! With acting games and movement exercises, you’ll develop your dramatic imagination and communication skills. You’ll learn how to bring a play to life, from script to stage, by exploring characters, blocking, and acting techniques. The last day of the session will feature a special performance for family and friends.

Birthday Biz
     Grades 5–9
Start your own birthday party entertainment business! From balloon making and cookie decorating, to magic tricks and teaching popular dances, you’ll learn some tricks of the trade and practice real life entertaining with Kinderplace campers. You’ll soon be on your way to entrepreneurial fun and success!

Dr. Seuss on the Loose     Grades 1–2
Come explore the wacky and wonderful world of Dr. Seuss! Each day we’ll read a different Dr. Seuss story and celebrate with art projects, playacting, and puppets. With old favorites and new friends, from Horton the Elephant to Gertrude McFuzz, you’re sure to see that funny things are everywhere!

The Improv Troupe     Grades 5–9

Do you love to act but hate to memorize lines? Improvisation is a type of acting in which you make up your lines as you go along. We’ll learn the tricks that make improvisation so much fun, and practice games like the ones played on the show Whose Line Is It, Anyway? On the last day, we’ll perform our own “Instant Comedy” improv show for special guests.

Magic Circus Ring     Grades 1–2
Come one, come all to the Magic Circus Ring! Making costumes and props and putting on our own clown makeup is just the beginning. We’ll learn fantastic magic tricks and amazing clown stunts—from juggling and plate spinning to feather balancing. On the last day, we’ll share a stupendously silly, magical circus show with family and friends.

Pirate Adventures     Grades 3–4

Calling all “Landlubbers”! Join us as we explore the wild world of pirating. Learn about famous pirates, their ships, flags, and songs. You’ll scale the rigging, practice sword fighting, create your own cannons, play games, hunt for treasures, and build a spectacular model pirate ship. Yar Matey!

Songwriting and Stage Presence
     Grades 1–4
Can you see yourself on stage singing your heart out, perhaps holding a microphone? If you love to sing, dance, and create music, this class will teach you the elements of a good song and how to begin writing one. We’ll make a variety of instruments to help you find the beat, learn how to collaborate with each other, and how to fly solo. We’ll put it all together for a rockin’ talent show at the end.

Stories Come Alive      Grades 1–4
Bring stories to life! Listen to folktales told by a professional storyteller and then create short plays out of them. You will choose the dialogue and stage direction, and then create the sound effects using a variety of instruments that you have made. On the last day you can share your work with family and friends. Performances will be recorded on DVD for campers to bring home.

Street Magic
     Grades 3–9
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a magician like David Blaine or Criss Angel? Study card, coin, and rope tricks, vanishing illusions, and mind reading, and learn over 30 astonishing tricks. Welcome to the world of illusions!
